Simone de Beauvoir’s thought did not end with The Second Sex (1949): she continued to reconsider the condition of women throughout her life.

This volume of texts (most of which have never been published) showcases the varied forms of Simone de Beauvoir’s thought: memoir writing, prefaces, written or audiovisual statements, then involvement with the Women’s Liberation Movement on issues such as abortion, domestic labor, and sexual violence. These texts shed light on the genesis of The Second Sex and the debates it sparked. They also bear witness to the continuity and evolution of Simone de Beauvoir’s activism and reveal a thought in motion, attentive to its time and always driven by the desire to act for women.
