On April 15, 2019, the fire at Notre-Dame de Paris highlighted the vulnerability of cathedrals and their centuries-old roof structures. The following autumn, the French government launched a major safety plan for the 87 cathedrals it owns. Featuring previously unseen images, portfolios of striking photographs, and a collection presenting the history and restorations of each cathedral, eight photographers reveal for the first time these fascinating roof frameworks and spaces, which are normally inaccessible to the general public.
