Les Maîtres de l’affiche (The Masters of Poster Art) was first published in 1896, when the craze for posters was at its height. It featured a selection of posters reproduced in miniature. Issued in monthly installments and printed by Chaix, the lithographic workshop primarily renowned for printing the posters of Jules Chéret, the scale reproductions were meant to reflect the best of French and international poster art. Devoid of any explanatory or descriptive text, Les Maîtres de l’affiche was an iconographical guide for collectors.
