Very well documented, sometimes bordering on the fantastic, tinged with humor, with splendid gouache art, Hazara Blues explores the ostracism of a community, still largely unknown in the West. Upon arriving in France at the age of 28, Reza realizes he must learn his birthdate by heart if he is to fit in here. Although born in 1980 in Iran, he is in fact an Afghan, for he is ethnically a Hazara, pariahs in Iran and Afghanistan alike. As a child, he soon learns that he and his kind are not welcome…
