While cleaning out her recently deceased father's home, Maxine discovers some unsetling Polaroids he received over fifty years ago. She sets out on a quest for the mysterious photographer on a small Scottish island. Scouring the land and the memories of those who live there, she reconstitutes the story of a seventeen-year-old boy who came there to cut himself off from the rest of the world. A boy who became a renowned cellist and the distant father she never knew well. For this island is something Maxine's father has graven in his own flesh and hers, too. She will leave with answers she never expected.
