Halfway between fiction and history, this humanist novel revolves around the figures of Missak and Mélinée Manouchian, Resistance fighters against the Nazis.

There were twenty-three of them: Armenians, Poles, Italians, Spanish, Hungarians, French, and Romanians. They were communists, resistance fighters. Most were Jews or immigrants. They were called criminals and terrorists. Today, for having resisted the Nazis and fought to the bitter end for freedom, they are heroes. Their leader was Missak Manouchian, a poet. Together, he and Mélinée fought in the Resistance and loved each other passionately. In February 2024, they were inducted into the Panthéon in Paris.
