Berlin, 1967: a young East German, part of a special programme to train the country’s elite, is smuggled into West Berlin.

On the Eastern side of the Wall, Dietrich was good at keeping secrets, pursue a hidden agenda. After a few months in Europe, he sets off for the USA, enrolling at prestigious Stanford University. He experiences the carefree American way of life and befriends two fellow students, Josh and Ray. Together, they tour California in an old Buick. Meanwhile, while studying in a laser laboratory, he finds his mother, a leading scientist, who fled the GDR and emigrated to the USA, leaving him behind. Then, he falls in love with Audrey. Could this reconciliation with his mother, his romance with Audrey, and his enjoyment of Western comforts distract him from his mission as an undercover agent?
