When Jo-Ann Brown, the writer of a show beloved throughout the land, mysteriously disappears, all England is in a tizzy. Fleeing her total asshole of an ex and the gossip rags, bankrupt and cheated on, Brown takes refuge in a cottage inherited from her great-aunt Gladys. The McPherson sisters, her septuagenarian neighbors, soon send her the only person they think can help her: the village priest. But did Jo-Ann really need her teenage nephew to show up after being kicked out of boarding school? Or, for that matter, her fanciful assistant?
