Born into a well-to-do family in Turin on April 6, 1901, Pier-Giorgio Frassati grew close to the sick and needy from an early age. He drew his zeal from his relationship with Christ and the Eucharist. A diligent student despite his difficulties at school, a passionate photographer, and a tireless mountaineer, he became involved in charitable works, notably the Society of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul.
