Every day, hundreds of thousands of suburban dwellers converge on urban hubs, often alone in their cars. These are the people left out in transportation policies, which tend to focus on longer or shorter distances. Not only are such daily commutes onerous, they are stigmatized today for their inefficiency and pollution. Roadways, that fine and flexible system, are an obvious solution. They make up the smartest "social network": the one providing the most freedom, and one already beginning to accommodate various solutions for tomorrow's mobility: carpooling, express lanes, park and ride, interfaces with rail systems.
