Just when the gas industry was following a planned transition to renewable gases, the Russian war in Ukraine threw a wrench in the works. In a situation already fraught with uncertainty, Russia created a very real shortage. Europeans have had to readjust their energy sources and means of supply. The question of energy independence has become a priority. As with any crisis, the short term effects are economically and environmentally negative: higher prices and the reopening of coal-fired plants or the use of fuel oil to compensate. In the longer run, however, the crisis offers excellent opportunities. CO2-free gas will have a predominant role in the world of tomorrow.
