Faced with the tragedies that have disrupted her life—from a childhood menaced by her father's violence to an adolescence marked by departures & uprootings—our protagonist has come to doubt her faith in humanity. Only her admiration for Rori, a pro-independence political activist with undeniable charisma, brings a smile back to her face and give her life meaning.
