A childhood in Tunisia. Refusing the fate to which her gender has consigned her. Dreaming of becoming a lawyer. Unflagging defense of Tunisian and Algerian freedom fighters who'd been tortured. Joining organizations, espousing the cause of women, and of course, her famed struggles for abortion and equity and against rape. Gisèle Halimi is all of this and more. Hers has been a life of struggle, of passion actitvism in the service of justice and women's rights. And until her dying breath, her drive to pass on the torch of revolution to new generations remained steadfast. For women and equality remain battles far from won.
