How Do Kids Get Culture?

Rethinking Cultural Mediation
Author Florence Eloy
COLLECTION Questions de culture
GENRE Sociology
Keywords Literature - Maurice - Anthill
This work examines the many mediating processes that intervene along the path of production from makers of culture to child audiences.

This work puts very different cultural products into dialogue with one another (TV series, children's publishing, museums, theatre, orchestras, movies) to highlight how the process of mediation largely transcends institutions to manifest equally in families and peer groups. It attempts to illustrate the constant reappropriations and adjustments children perform in relation to the guidance on offer. In so doing, it interrogates the applicability of borders sometimes seen as rigid, often between the commercial and the non-commercial, in order to put mediating process, which takes place regardless, into perspective.
