Vegans distinguish themselves from meat eaters by refusing as completely as possible all use of products or services stemming from animal exploitation. Their reasons for adopting this lifestyle are falling on ever-more receptive ears among consumers these days, even as animals on land and sea are being killed in ever-greater numbers. This essay is an occasion for its authors to show that the society vegans wish to bring into being (and prefigure with their daily practices) is founded on a broadened understanding of justice: justice that embraces all sentient creatures on this planet.
