Adele's mother, Lise, is suffering from a serious illness. But she refuses to allow her disease to take over her entire life, so she and Adele make a pact: to talk about it as little as possible, especially not to her ex-husband. So the two of them start to treat the disease as a monster they have to keep at bay. But Adele is increasingly reluctant to leave her mother alone, she worries about the slightest unusual sign and, above all, she regrets what she did a few months earlier, unaware at that point that her mother had been hospitalized.
The secret becomes harder and harder to keep to herself. Gradually, Adele distances herself from Blanche, her best friend. She avoids weekends at her father's house. She even evades Darius, a boy from school who’d do anything to see her again...
