Aslam is beset by doubts. Why did his father break the law? Why does the sea's salt not belong to everyone? But when he learns that the world-famous Gandhi is coming to his village of Jalalpur, his hope is reborn. Aslam and his cousin Kamal impatiently, tirelessly await the arrival of their hero, the only person capable of standing up to the authorities and perhaps free Aslam's father.
This graphic novel reminds us that when laws are unjust, we must fight to change them, and that nonviolent action is more powerful than taking up arms. A six-page nonfiction appendix provides further historical context for the story.
