Over a century, Rue des Quatre-Vents has seen many residents come and go, be born and grow old. They've all played a part in forging the street's identity. Today, Suong Mai from Vietnam, Bako from Mali, and Najib from Afghanistan live here, but yesterday and even longer ago still, the street had welcomed Marco from Italy, Mikhail the Russian Jew, Marcel from the Auvergne region, Anastas the Armenien, and many more. The people of Rue des Quatre-Vents have known war, economic crisis, forcible repatriation, weddings, and births. These immigrants, who have enriched life in France with their customs, have slowly intermingled with the people there before them, creating a France of many races.
