Tolerance: the decision to accept opinions or behaviors that bother us, even if we have the means to combat them. what a strange idea! Why choose to accept what we deem unacceptable? It is the lesser evil. History teaches us that violence has never resolved the disagreements that divide humanity. Tolerance, then, is a responsible choice: the least worst, for lack of anything better. Sure, fine -- but just how far does it go? Is there a point to putting up with racism, xenophobia, sexism, and hatred in all its forms? How can we establish limits to tolerance without crossing over into intolerance?
