GRANT FOR PUBLISHING COMPANIES FOR THE TRANSLATION OF FRENCH WORKS INTO FOREIGN LANGUAGES

=> To facilitate the translation of French books around the world


The aim of the grant is to promote to a global readership, quality translations of works of literary and scientific diversity, written in French or other languages of France. The funds are to encourage foreign publishers to invest in publishing, in print and/or digital format, a diverse selection of quality French works that are accessible to as large a readership as possible.
The grant application is made by the original French publisher who sold the rights to a foreign publishing company. 

  • Amount of the grant:  40% or 60% of eligible translation costs; the grant amount is calculated based on eligible costs of between €834 and €38,000.


GRANT FOR PUBLISHING COMPANIES FOR THE TRANSLATION OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE WORKS INTO FRENCH

The aim of the grant for publishers for the translation of foreign language works into French, is to offer the French public quality translations of a diverse selection of literary and scientific works from around the world. The grant provides aid to publishers investing in publishing translations of a diverse selection of quality foreign language works. Priority will be given to works of both fiction and non-fiction that target a wide readership, as well as works from rarely translated languages. The translated works may be published in print and/or digital format. 

  • Amount of the grant: 40% or 60% of eligible translation costs; the aid amount is calculated from a cost base capped between €834 and €38,000.  


GRANT FOR FRANCOPHONE PUBLISHING COMPANIES ABROAD FOR RIGHTS ACQUISITION AND CO-EDITION PROJECTS

=> To facilitate the inventory of literary works in French in Francophone territories around the world


The aim of this experimental grant for rights acquisitions and co-editions for francophone publishers abroad, is to facilitate the availability of literary works in French, in French-speaking territories around the world. The grant aids foreign Francophone publishers partnering with a French publisher to invest in rights acquisitions and/or co-editions, all within a framework of an editorial line of a diverse selection of quality works of both fiction and non-fiction targeting a large readership.

  • Amount of aid: from €1,000 to €15,000.

AID AVAILABLE FROM THE LOCAL INSTITUTS FRANÇAIS AND THE CULTURAL SERVICES OF FRENCH EMBASSIES AROUND THE WORLD

The French cultural network abroad consists of more than 150 branches around the world. 
Some of the local French Institutes and Embassy Cultural Services offer financial assistance programs for publishers (PAP): these programs are aimed at local publishers committed to the publishing of local versions of fiction and non-fiction works by Francophone authors. FINANCIAL AID FOR RIGHTS ACQUISITIONS

The Institut Français is a public industrial and commercial institution -an agency of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture. Its mission is to promote French culture abroad, including books. The French Institute of Paris assists foreign publishers wishing to include works by French-speaking authors in their catalogues through partial or full financial aid to help cover the advance for rights transactions between French and foreign publishers. 

There are two committee meetings yearly: The first is in February and the second in September.
