Late 1930s. An adventuress flees California with her child in tow, braving many dangers to track down her own personal ghosts in the Native American territories of the Great North, a mysterious map her only guide. Fifteen years later, Bud Cooper, who once crossed their path, brings back the tale of the escapades she had from the child who shared them and was almost a casualty of her mother's wild imagination. For who but Bud would lend a sympathetic ear to Jessie Comment, all grown up now, as she recounts how she spent once an entire lifetime with Native Americans when she was six -- a life unknown to both the FBI and the kindly Plunkett aunts who later took her in.
